SUMMARY:SE Alaska’s Otter Coast Rainforest Expedition
DESCRIPTION:Note: This trip is FULL\nAfter over 40 years in business\, we have chosen to offer one pinnacle experience each season to a hand-picked team of explorers. Each of these trips will have an underlying goal of being the trip we always wanted to do. Last season was Greenland\, and this Alaskan Adventure is the next is this series of one-off top shelf experiences. \nThis remote kayak expedition originates in Sitka\, served by several flights a day from Seattle making it fairly easy to fly into. Remote multi-day kayak trips to this part of Alaska are very uncommon and feature some amazing tidal features\, animal life\, wild food foraging\, and pure wilderness. We have done four other shorter trips to this region the last few years and still haven’t encountered any other kayak groups. You will paddle with rafts of sea otters\, sea birds\, seals\, sea lions\, and humpback whales on water\, while on land we’ll encounter Sitka blacktail deer and talkative Ravens. This area is also home to large numbers of bald eagles and wild grizzly bears. Bears along this remote part of Alaska aren’t very interested in humans and always retreated into the dense forest whenever we’ve encountered them. \nIf your interests include navigation in areas where tidal currents rule days that are punctuated by fresh caught fish and huckleberry desserts\, then read further. To give the best shot at a beautiful wilderness experience\, we are paddling away from town on a one-way journey…with a boat pick-up scheduled at the end for your return to Sitka. We’re going to try to leave some time for foraging\, photos\, some fishing and perhaps a layover day. We’ll find ample freshwater along our route\, setting up comfortable camps with lots of tarps and we’ll work together on tactical bear hangs during this June trip\, which is one of the least rainy months. \nWe start by hand picking a group of 4-6 paddlers and outfit them with excellent expedition gear ready for any weather. Level 3 skills are pretty much the baseline to expect: ability to paddle in 10-15 kt of wind\, 2 kts current and 1-3 ft waves. Next\, we provision with real food\, bombproof tents and full-on safety gear. Michael\, an ACA certified Instructor Trainer and Lisa\, a British Canoe Sea Leader will be your guides for a truly personal experience. You can even be assessed for your ACA L-3 or L-4 skills at the end of this trip if you wish. This is a great opportunity for participants looking for ACA guide training/assessment as well (only one spot). \n\nItinerary\nDay 1\nArrival in Sitka. Meet up for dinner and overnight (lodging included). \nDay 2\nOrientation Day: Provision\, pack\, prepare\, and plan. Overnight in Sitka (lodging included) \nDays 3 – 10\nLeaving from Sitka\, we paddle out to a first night camp and continue through a labyrinth of islands as we get more remote. We’ll invest our time in exploring nooks and crannies\, tide races\, river mouths (fishing for salmon anyone?)\, mussel beds\, foraging for wild huckleberries\, salmonberries and enjoying fresh rockfish for dinner\, paddling wide open spaces and narrow channels. Expect to share this experience with humpback whales\, sea otters\, brown bears\, sea lions\, eagles\, ospreys\, seals\, mink\, and a variety of other wild creatures that call this remote wilderness home. \nDay 11\nBoat pick-up to transfer back to Sitka\, hot showers\, clean sheets\, and a dinner out. SUMMARY:Isle Royale Sampler 2026
DESCRIPTION:We are going to strap our kayaks to the roof of a ferry\, motor over fifty miles out to the largest island in the largest lake in the world and go kayaking. This is not something to be taken lightly\, but our “sampler” program is designed for those who are interested in learning to camp out of their kayaks in relatively calm conditions. It is appropriate for adventurous beginners who have had group rescue practice and can paddle up to 10 miles/day in 1-2 ft seas and 10 knots of wind. We offer a number of weekend and day workshops that can help you grow those skills or point you to a coach in your area. \nSea Kayaking Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior\nThis is a magical place wrapped up in ancient rock\, thimbleberries and the unforgiving waters of Lake Superior. This unique island park with its moose and wolves is a popular destination for backpackers\, but since it is an island we thought that it would make more sense to explore it by kayak! There will be plenty of time for day hikes\, brisk swims\, good lake trout fishing\, kayaking and listening to the loons. We plan this trip together with you based on weather outlook\, park conditions and your own goals and tastes. To ensure your safety and maintain the flexibility of small camps\, we limit this trip to only five participants. \n\nSample Itinerary for 7 Day Trip\n(includes 2 travel days)\nDay 1\nRendezvous in Copper Harbor at 5:00 PM at the Minnetonka Resort for a quick backcountry packing orientation. \nDay 2\n7 AM rendezvous at Isle Royale Queen dock for the 3.5 hour ride to Rock Harbor. Organize and pack for the short paddle to the first campsite. Go over basic strokes\, braces and rescue drills. \nDays 3-5\nThe heart of the trip–you’ll find yourself paddling an average of 4 or 5 hours/day sandwiched with day hikes\, fishing\, shooting photos\, looking for Moose and listening to the music of our largest freshwater sea. For this trip we often use just two camps to use as two separate hubs. We find you spend more time seeing the island\, than making and breaking camp this way. DESCRIPTION:We are going to strap our kayaks to the roof of a ferry\, motor over fifty miles out to the largest island in the largest lake in the world and go kayaking. This is not something to be taken lightly\, but our “sampler” program is designed for those who are interested in learning to camp out of their kayaks in relatively calm conditions. It is appropriate for adventurous beginners who have had group rescue practice and can paddle up to 10 miles/day in 1-2 ft seas and 10 knots of wind. We offer a number of weekend and day workshops that can help you grow those skills or point you to a coach in your area. \nSea Kayaking Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior\nThis is a magical place wrapped up in ancient rock\, thimbleberries and the unforgiving waters of Lake Superior. This unique island park with its moose and wolves is a popular destination for backpackers\, but since it is an island we thought that it would make more sense to explore it by kayak! There will be plenty of time for day hikes\, brisk swims\, good lake trout fishing\, kayaking and listening to the loons. We plan this trip together with you based on weather outlook\, park conditions and your own goals and tastes. To ensure your safety and maintain the flexibility of small camps\, we limit this trip to only five participants. \n\nSample Itinerary for 7 Day Trip\n(includes 2 travel days)\nDay 1\nRendezvous in Copper Harbor at 5:00 PM at the Minnetonka Resort for a quick backcountry packing orientation. \nDay 2\n7 AM rendezvous at Isle Royale Queen dock for the 3.5 hour ride to Rock Harbor. Organize and pack for the short paddle to the first campsite. SUMMARY:Tasmania: Three Capes Lodge-Based Private Trip
DESCRIPTION:Where on earth can you go kayaking with whales and seals and then go hiking with Kangaroos\, Wallabies and Wombats? Tasmania\, of course! This southernmost island state of Australia has an amazing topography and stunning coastline of rocky promontories broken up by sand beaches. It is truly one of most breathtaking coastlines we have ever seen with relatively warm seas and amazingly pleasant temperate weather.  Combine this with a rich local food and wine culture and an outdoor focused population you really have a recipe for a great adventure. \nWe are joining forces with Southern Sea Ventures to bring this private trip for Uncommon Adventures.  Although they normally try to book 10-12 people in tandems\, this trip for us is designed for 6-8 people primarily focused on single kayaks (tandems available on request).  We are also cherry picking the sweet spot of the season away from the summer crowds. This trip is based out of a nice private lodge with guides providing meals along the way. \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n5-Day Itinerary\n(1 travel days included)\nDay 1\nArrival Day…make your own way to the group hotel in central Hobart \nDay 2\nMeet your kayak guide for the transfer to the Tasman Peninsula. The adventure begins with a short paddle to Port Arthur historic site\, where we experience a unique view from the water. Continuing our paddles south\, we pass dramatic cliffs and sandy beaches before finishing at Safety Cove. Transfer to our private lodge\, home for the next three nights. \nDay 3\nToday’s paddle is towards Cape Hauy\, one of the highlights of the Three Capes Track. If the weather allows\, we’ll paddle to the base of the Candle Stick\, a mecca for rock climbers from around the world. Located nearby is a seal haul-out where we can pause while Australian fur seals play around us. Returning to the shelter of the bay\, we explore hidden coves before heading back to the lodge. \nDay 4\nToday we explore Lime Bay Coastal Reserve\, taking in pretty lagoons\, eucalypt woodlands and convict history. On our northwards paddle\, we pass delicate sandstone cliffs and sandy beaches\, spotting stingrays and sea eagles along the way.
